THE SPEECH I'D GIVE IF I WERE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

Written by Dr. Jack Wheeler
Thursday, 14 July 2011

[Note:  No, I have no intention whatever of running for president.  This is the address that Palin or Perry or Bachman or some major candidate needs to give if we want an end to our current political insanity.]

I am running for president because freedom in America is being systematically destroyed by Demagogues in Washington, and I am determined to restore it.

That capital "D" is there because it is the more appropriate label for Democrats.  The Democrat Party should be referred to as the Demagogue Party, and that is what I shall do until the day comes when they abandon their opposition to fundamental American values and their advocacy of Marxist-Fascist ideology.

We are gathered here today to discuss solutions to the economic crisis the Demagogues have created - a crisis to which they claim there is no solution.   Their Treasury Secretary, Mr. Geithner, has stated this publicly, saying that for a lot of Americans, their lives are going to be, quote, "harder than anything they've experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come."

This is a textbook example of Demagogue Marxist idiotic nonsense.  But it is nonsense with a purpose.  Its purpose is to con people into believing it is true, into getting people so depressed and hopeless that they feel they must depend on government handouts for a living - so they will vote for Demagogues providing the handouts, instead of Republicans who want to provide economic opportunity and freedom.

Folks, restoring prosperity in America is easy. It can be achieved quickly, virtually overnight.  Not automatically.  It will require a lot of energy, a lot of focused and intelligent effort by all of us.  The solution to America's Malaise is so simple it can be summarized in seven words.

Those seven words are:  Get the government out of the way.

Those seven words will be the mantra, the theme song, the purpose of my presidency.  Admittedly, I cannot do this on my own.  The President is not a King, as the current occupant of the White House thinks he is.  I will need a Republican Congress to legislate and authorize what I propose.

And here is what I initially propose, a quintet that will quickly result in an explosion of job creation and investment in a rapidly growing American economy:

*The immediate freezing of all proposed federal agency regulations and the retroactive suspension of all regulations by any federal agency issued during the 18 months preceeding my assuming office (January 20, 2013).  Note that this requires only a Presidential Executive Order, no legislation of Congress.

*The elimination of taxes on capital gains.

*The elimination of corporate income taxes.

*The elimination of the depreciation schedule, allowing full expensing of capital assets.

*The repeal of both the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (Sarbox), and the Dodd-Frank Act.

This is just for starters.  There is an immense amount of work to be done to dig us out of the abyss the Demagogues have dug us into.

Which brings me to the First Rule of Holes.  When smart people pretend to be stupid, insisting that the way to dig yourself out of a deep hole is to dig the hole ever deeper instead of stop digging, you know you are dealing with cheats, crooks, and shysters - in a word, with Demagogues.

The insane debate right now over raising the debt ceiling is a classic example.  For Demagogues to play Chicken Little and claim the sky will fall into default and economic Armageddon if the debt ceiling isn't raised is a bald-faced lie.

To be specific, Mr. Obama lied when he threatened on July 12 that there wouldn't be enough money to send out Social Security checks on August 3 if the debt ceiling isn't raised.

The federal government receives more than $200 billion in tax revenue a month.  Interest on federal debt per month is $29 billion.  Social Security costs per month are about $49 billion.  Medicare and Medicaid about $50 billion.  Active duty military personnel and veterans programs some $2.9 billion each.  Those monthly costs add up to around $134 billion - which leaves $66 billion per month left over.

The problem is - and get ready for this - the federal government is spending $108 billion more than it takes in every month now.  The CBO estimates are that Washington spent $973 billion more, which means borrowed, than it received for the first nine months of FY2011.  The Demagogues are digging the hole we're in $108 billion deeper every month - and they say the only way out is to keep digging and borrowing more!

I say no.  I say this has to stop.  Which is why I must admit I am keenly disappointed by my fellow Republicans in the House leadership, whom I feel have been suckered into a red herring trap on this.

They keep proposing ridiculous alternatives to Mr. Obama's impossibly destructive demand to raise both the debt ceiling and taxes - such as "entitlement reform," and agreeing to raise the debt ceiling by trillions right now in exchange for what Congressman Allen West appropriately terms "fairy dust" cuts in spending years from now.

I feel what they need to insist on is spending reform right now.  As we saw in the numbers above, this requires the following actions by the House:

*Refusing to raise the debt ceiling. (Remember that only the House has the Constitutional authority to raise it, or indeed to authorize any and all spending by the federal government.)

*Specifying that the approximately $200 billion in monthly federal revenues be first spent as itemized above (debt interest payment, Social Security, et al).

*Negotiating with Mr. Obama on how the remaining some $66 billion in monthly revenues should be prioritized.  This is the only discussion the House leadership should be having with Mr. Obama.

The discussion should go something like this.  Mr. Obama, you've been spending $174 billion a month beyond the most essential priorities of debt service, Social Security, etc., and as of next month, you'll only have $66 billion.  As Commander-in-Chief, a most basic responsibility of yours is to provide for the national defense, so a significant fraction of that $66 billion must go to the Pentagon.   How do you propose to spend what's left, realizing that a majority of the House has to agree?

Of course, the very first thing that must be tossed overboard like Osama's corpse is ObamaCare.  Next should be the EPA, the Departments of Education and Energy, and such abominations as ethanol subsidies.

This will start clearing the path for what will be the primary goal of my presidency.  For "Getting the government out of the way" is only an intermediate goal, to jump-start our economy back to job creation and prosperity.  My primary goal is Constitutional government.

Succinctly, the relationship between citizens and government created by our Founders is:  citizens can do whatever they want unless it is legally prohibited, while the government cannot do anything unless it is legally permitted.  (The Demagogues want it to be the other way around.)

Thus the purpose of the Constitution is to specify what the federal government is permitted to do. These permissions are called "enumerated powers."  This means that if there is not a specific enumerated power giving the government permission to do something - like those in Article I, Section 8 regarding coining money and maintaining a navy - the government can't do it.

In other words, there is no enumerated power and thus no constitutional authority for the existence of a Department of Labor, Education, Energy, Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Health & Human Services, Homeland Security, Interior, or Transportation.  There is no authority for the existence of, e.g., the EPA or the Federal Reserve.

There is such constitutional authority for a Department of State, Defense, Justice, and Treasury.

I realize that the elimination of these unconstitutional agencies and departments will not be achieved overnight - Rome wasn't torn down in a day.  But this will be a clear goal my presidency will work steadily towards.

Constitutional government also helps provide a solution to our long-term debt liabilities, such as those in the tens of trillions regarding Social Security.  We often hear the argument now that these unfunded liabilities make the federal government bankrupt, but this is not so.

Bankruptcy occurs when a company's assets are overwhelmed by its liabilities.  But it turns out that the federal government possesses assets which can pay those liabilities off.

The federal government claims ownership of some 650 million acres or 30% of all the land in the United States.  Yet the Constitution allows (Article I, Section 8, clause 17) it to own land only for "the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dock-yards, and other needful buildings."

Add to this the value of offshore mineral resources such as oil and gas of the federally-owned Continental Shelf.  Scheduled sales of these assets could easily fund the now-unfunded liabilities of Social Security, as well as pay down our national debt.

As for the fantastic unfunded liabilities of Medicare/Medicaid, we must realize that health care in America is so expensive because of government interference in the medical marketplace.  Once again, the solution is to Get The Government Out Of The Way.

I'll be presenting a policy paper outlining ten steps needed to replace the Health Fascism that we have now with Health Freedom.[1]

In summary, besides eliminating any vestige of ObamaCare, we need to open enrollment in medical schools, reduce hospital administrative costs, eliminate state and regulatory barriers to low-cost health insurance, allow doctors to have waivers for malpractice, eliminate emergency room requirements to serve anyone and absorb the cost, repeal the Effectivity requirement for FDA drug approval, and in general work towards a true medical marketplace.

You know, the great irony of what I'm telling you today is that it provides Mr. Obama with the blueprint he needs to defeat me and win a second term going away.  For if he implements my get-the-government-out-of-the-way plan, the economy will take off like a rocket ship and he'll be in like Flynn by November 2012.

Yet I have no fear that he will do so.  It's not that he's too stupid to.  I don't doubt that he's quite bright - although there will always be wonder until he releases his college transcripts from Occidental, Harvard, and Columbia which he refuses to.

No, it's because he is emotionally incapable of being pro-economic freedom, having a Communist as a childhood mentor (Frank Marshall Davis), attending a Hate America church for 20 years whose preacher prayed for God to damn America (Jeremiah Wright), for choosing Saul Alinsky radicalism as a profession (being a "community organizer"), for never having a private sector job or running even a corner store or gaining the tiniest understanding of business.

What he does understand is crony capitalism, of rent-seeking moocher capitalism, of taking bribes in the form of "campaign contributions" and doling out unconstitutional subsidies and government largesse in return.  A perfect example are the billions he's paid out for various "renewable energy" scams while he incessantly screws the one industry capable of providing us with dependable energy, namely the petroleum (oil and gas) industry.

Make no mistake.  During my presidency, we will Drill, Baby, Drill! to provide Americans with low-cost abundant energy for an ever-more prosperous economy while liberating ourselves from foreign oil.

I can't resist a word here about the greatest scientific fraud in human history:  Warmism.  Anyone who believes that human-produced carbon dioxide (a trace of a trace gas, about 1/10th of 1% of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere) is either a crook or an idiot.

Scientists who took bribes (government grants) to "prove" the crock of Warmism have disgraced themselves and the once-noble profession of science.  When I'm president, trust me, they can kiss their grants goodbye - just like all crony capitalists can kiss their subsidies adios.

This is only a beginning sketch of how I plan to restore prosperity and freedom to America, but I've gone on too long already. I haven't touched on how I plan to reinstate the 10th Amendment or lead a repeal of the 16th and 17th, but that's for another day. Let me conclude with a warning to the Demagogues and a prayer for Republicans.

The warning is this:  Your days of thieving are coming to an end.  Mr. Obama infamously told "Joe the Plumber" his goal as president would be to "spread the wealth around."  Those are the words of a thief.

Mr. Obama:  it's not your money to "spread around" to your moocher cronies.  Honest people think of how to earn money, and once it's earned it's theirs.  Dishonest people think of how to steal money earned by others.  Demagogues call it "redistribution," which is just another word for "theft."

So get the picture, Dems.  No more thieving, no more borrowing - which is stealing from our children and grandchildren who have to pay it back.  Finita la musica - the music is over.

My prayer is this:  That my fellow Republicans will have the courage of their values.  If you don't have the courage to act in accordance with your values, you will abandon them.  Psychologists well know that when someone has a conflict between his or her beliefs and behavior, their beliefs will change to excuse their behavior. Rarely is it the other way around.

Your values are individual freedom and personal responsibility, of earning what you receive in life, of taking pride in being an American, of standing up for America and its founding principles with no apology.  I salute you for those values and pray you act on them without reservation.

My friends, as Ronald Reagan once said, you and I have a date with destiny.  The nightmare of the Obama presidency will soon be over.  America's freedom and prosperity will be restored.  I pledge you that, on my sacred honor.

May God bless the United States of America.

Rep. Allen West on President Obama's Afghanistan Speech

President Obama’s highly politicized speech and decision does not give our military the strategic advantage it needs to complete its mission in Afghanistan, and it is a shame that the president’s falling poll numbers would cause him to make this decision.

Liberals across the country are placing their personal political futures ahead of what is right for our country. We must not allow this to happen. Tough decisions need to be made in order to correct the path which America is going down, and we need leaders who are committed to solving our country’s problems – not those who pander to the public when things are politically convenient.

DRIVING THE ECONOMY OFF THE CLIFF

In August of 2010 President Obama made the following remarks before the Democratic National Committee at an event in Austin which drew howls of laughter and applause from the gathering.

“If you have a car and you want to go forward, what do you do? You put it in ‘D,’” Obama says to laughter. “When you want to go backwards, what do you do? You put it in ‘R.’ I’m just saying. That’s no coincidence. We are not going to give them the keys back.”

“We have spent the last 20 months governing. They spent the last 20 months politicking. Now we’ve got three months to go, and so we’ve decided, well, we can politick for three months. They’ve forgotten I know how to politick pretty good,” Obama says to laughter and applause. “And so I’m happy to make this argument — I am happy to have this debate over the next several months about what their vision of the future is, because they don’t have one. They are trying to move us backwards, and we need to move us forward.”

These remarks were made prior to the November 2010 shellacking.  In the aftermath Obama and the Democrats have been residing in a “State of Denial” and remain unwilling to work with Republicans after this historic mandate from voters.

Let’s apply Obama’s driving analogy to the out of control deficit spending to see where this trip takes us.

To paraphrase an old Glen Campbell song; “By the time we get to Phoenix we’ll be insolvent!”

“A Time for Choosing”

Today we celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of Ronald Wilson Reagan; fate determined that he would not witness this moment, yet his legacy lives on.  In 1964 Reagan delivered the speech that would catapult him onto the national stage, entitled “A Time for Choosing” its relevance crosses the great divide of time and tide.  Extrapolate the numbers and substitute the adversaries it becomes eerily poignant how well Reagan understood the core principles of America, the right to self-determination held sacred by Americans and the hollow promise of Democratic Liberalism.

WHO ARE THE HATE MONGERS?

Despite the complete absence of evidence connecting Jared Loughner to anything that could be considered remotely Conservative ideology the Liberal Progressive Left went off half cocked in customary fashion seizing upon the crisis de jure to advance a political agenda. Within hours of the tragedy of Saturday last liberal pundit Paul Krugman seized the opportunity to vilify and link Sarah Pallin, the Tea Party, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and others as the source of hatred that could motivate such an atrocity. “We don’t have proof yet that this was political, but the odds are that it was.” – Paul Krugman January 8, 2011, 3:22 pm

Read Paul Krugman Article

Krugman would not be alone, Michael Daly of the NY Daily News decided to pile on hours later as sketchy information was beginning to emerge through several You Tube postings that the shooter was a demented individual without political ties. Said Daley at the time, “And, now that Palin may have the blood of more than some poor caribou on her hands, I wonder if she will continue putting people in cross hairs and calling on folks to RELOAD!” – Michael Daley Sunday, January 9th 2011, 4:00 AM

Even after Tweets from former friend and classmate Caitie Parker were disseminated and went viral on the net:

The outpouring of understanding and compassion continued from the left.

Bloggers and commenters at the Daily Kos; as in this tweet from Markos Moulitsas, founder of the liberal website DailyKos,

in a further rush to judgment!

Drew Westen, Psychologist and neuroscientist; Emory University Professor and
Huffington Post contributor chimed in days later, “Even before reporters started to interview his professors and college classmates who were frightened by his erratic behavior in class last fall, the three YouTube videos he left as testimony to his mental state left no doubt that he is delusional and probably in the midst of a psychotic episode (a fancy way of saying that his brain is no longer functioning so that he can tell reality from unreality -- even by Tea Party standards).” After that outrageous remark Dr. Westen continues throughout the article an effort to link Glen Beck, Jan Brewer, Rupert Murdoch, Bill O’Reilly and the Fox News “jidad against the American Citizen”.

Read Dr. Drew Westen Article

Blame for the tragedy was not only limited to political pundits, elected official and the man most responsible for the investigation in Pima County, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik within hours was quick to advance his own political agenda through suggestion that cable right wing news commentators add to the vitriol and climate of hate which could motivate an unstable mind as Loeghner’s. “(CNSNews.com) – Arizona’s Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who on Saturday suggested radio and television talk shows were somehow responsible for inciting a man who may be mentally disturbed to kill six people and wound 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).”

As it turns out the Pima County Sheriff’s Department had previous encounters with Jared Loeghner who had been making death threats against many people in Pima County including Staff of Pima County College, Radio show hosts and bloggers. The Sheriff’s Department did nothing to intercede in Jared Loughner’s reckless behavior in light of repeated offenses by an obviously disturbed young man. One has to wonder if Sheriff Dupnik’s diatribe against the right was an advancement of a political agenda or simply an attempt to deflect attention away from himself and his department for what may have been a missed opportunity to avert the tragedy of Saturday January 8, 2011.

Through the irresponsible remarks by many among the left’s talking heads a climate of fear, loathing and outright hate has been ginned up as is evident on this You Tube Video of tweets calling for everything from hatred of Sarah Palin to outright threats of death.

As the investigation unfolds in the following weeks one can only hope for the following;

1. That Gabbrielle Giffords has a full and speedy recovery returning to her rightful place on the Congressional floor representing the people of Arizona’s Congressional 8th.

2. That as the facts unfold further exposing the man and mind that could conceive such horror did in fact act alone without prompting from Sarah, Glen, Rush, Mark, Bill, Fox News or the Tea Party. Further the acts of the shooter were an anomaly however unfortunate but possible in a free society as were the acts of Mark David Chapman and John Warnoch Hinkley Jr. conceived by diseased minds without political motivation.

Additionally, to the lefts call for a toning down of the rhetoric, an apology is deserved from the many who rushed to judgment to vilify their opponents on the political stage thereby whipping up a feeding frenzy within the left’s lunatic fringe.

That said, there is a far greater probability that Congresswoman Giffords will return to Congress before any apology is forthcoming from the left.

Third Party Candidacies and Political Chicanery

November 2nd, 1020 will be remembered as date which will live in infamy for Illinoisans and the economy of the State. Beginning with the impeachment of former Governor Blagojevich for attempting to sell the empty Senate seat once held by President Obama newly appointed Governor Quinn threatened to raise the taxes of Illinoisans by 33% with dire consequences if not embraced by the legislature; severe cutbacks in public services along with reduced state funding to public schools.

The Illinois Tea Party became ebullient in a climate that could finally witness the paring back of Illinois’ bloated bureaucracy. Not to be outdone the public service unions descend on Springfield in April of 2010 in a well-organized and perhaps the largest rally since the Civil Rights movement. The official chant of the rally was “Raise my taxes!”, with prefabricated placards and signage on display. In a message of hypocrisy Henry Bayer, executive director of Council 31 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees states, "Yes, people are hurting. That's why we need a tax increase."

With elections looming large Republicans began a campaign of reducing taxes and cutting statewide programs. Republican candidate Adam Andrzejewski a Tea Party favorite called for a forensic audit of the state’s budget which he claimed could reduce redundancy in statewide programs thereby saving the state billions in wasted taxpayer dollars.

With Quinn polling badly and trailing behind virtually every Republican candidate the Governor decided to back off his demand to raise state income taxes. In hotly contested gubernatorial primaries in both the Republican and Democratic races the winners Quinn (D) and Brady (R) are set to square off in November. From the beginning of the final sprint to Springfield, Quinn is trailing Brady in all polls with Brady capturing coveted endorsements from both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times. A Republican win appears a “shoe in” throughout the race until late August of 2010.

Scott Lee Cohen having won the Democratic Primary for Lt. Governor was to be Quinn’s running mate until days after the primaries embarrassing revelations about Cohen’s past steroid abuse and assault charges from a former girlfriend are revealed. Quinn and the Illinois Democrats force Cohen’s resignation viewing him as a liability to the campaign against much to his displeasure. In his place Sheila Simon daughter of well respect past Senator Paul Simon is selected to fill the ticket. Once more Democrats usurp the democratic process by appointing a Lt. Gubernatorial candidate instead of electing one. This pair, Quinn and Simon the Democrats believe will be unstoppable.

Still Quinn trails in the polls by as much as ten points, that is until late August 2010, enter Scott Lee Cohen largely forgotten by the voters and ignored by the media he announces his independent candidacy for Governor of Illinois. Cohen out spends Quinn and Brady combined in the months preceding November gaining name recognition and valuable media attention. Cohen campaigns as the "True" Independent not tied to either political party. Signage for Cohen begin appearing on street corners, along highways and every imaginable public venue almost overnight in the month before the election with a radio and television media blitz that overshadows the other candidates.

Let’s look further back, without an organization or supporters Cohen manages to get a position on the ballot filing his petition as independent in June of 2010 with entirely hired petitioners. Chicagoans recruited on the street were sent out with no training or instruction and told to stand outside the State of Illinois Building and a South Loop pawn shop owned by Cohen's brother, Randy Cohen, according to interviews with petitioners. They're getting paid $1 per valid signature; "A person on the street gave [the job] to me," said Luther Riddle, who said he didn't know what Cohen stands for or why he is running. What he did know was how much training he'd received. "None," he said. "I ain't met the person yet."

While it is not illegal to pay people to circulate petitions, and experts say its common practice, they acknowledge that methods Cohen used are unorthodox. Thousands upon thousands of paid people collected signatures for Scott around the state. Scott Lee Cohen bought and paid for his campaign with his own money so he claims. Between the dates of April 1, 2010 and December 7, 2010 the Independent candidate received $5,500.00 from the 33rd and 34th Ward Democratic Committees and $3,822,611.13 in campaign contributions from Citizens for Scott Lee Cohen. The Democratic Ward contributions are obviously from Democrats but who are the Citizens for Scott Lee Cohen?

Citizens for Scott Lee Cohen was created January 23, 2009 as a Democratic committee to support Scott Lee Cohen for public office. Chairman and Co-chairmen are Jeff Cohen and Scott Shapiro respectively, both registered Democrats in Cook County, Illinois. Karen L. Reisman is listed as Treasurer and registered Democrat in Lake County Illinois who would have been responsible for filing of D2’s as no amendment to the D1 submitted by her was ever filed.

According to D2’s filed by the Cohen campaign $2,128,550.13 came from loans by Scott Lee Cohen with the balance coming from individual Democrats from both the public and private sector. With such a sizable campaign war chest Scott Lee Cohen was able to purchase the exposure in the weeks leading up to November 2nd, 2010. Though not successful in his bid for the Governorship, the Cohen campaign turned the tide for Pat Quinn; finally winning over Brady by the slim margin of 31,834 votes, a margin of less than 2%.

Final vote tallies for the 2010 Gubernatorial Election:

Quinn 1,745,219 Democrat Party
Brady 1,713,385 Republican Party
Cohen 135,705 Independent
Whitney 100,756 Green Party
Green 34,681 Libertarian Party
Other(s) 243 No Party Affiliation

Two lessons can be learned from the 2010 Governor’s race. First third Party candidates never win often becoming spoilers of the legitimate candidate’s campaign; in this instance 1,985,770 votes were cast against Pat Quinn, a clear majority of Illinois' voters. In the anti-incumbency climate of the 2010 election cycle the independent candidate most likely siphoned off votes from the Republican Bill Brady who stood a real chance of winning until Cohen entered the race as an Independent.

Second, even if the DNC did not have a hand in the Brady upset Democrats surely did, Pat Quinn owes Scott Lee Cohen and Democrat contributors to the Cohen campaign a huge debt of gratitude in his election win. Thanks to Cohen the democratic process has not been served which will cost Illinoisans dearly over the next four years. Illinois’ new motto could be “California and Bust”.
